Description: Serum amyloid P-component (SAP) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are non-fibrillar plasma glycoproteins, belonging to the pentraxin protein family. The pentraxins are opsonins that specifically targets nuclear autoantigens mainly found in apoptotic and necrotic cells (1). SAP is a universal constituent of amyloid deposits and it is specific to calcium-dependent binding motifs presents in amyloid fibrils (2). In human, unlike CRP, SAP does not react as acute phase protein. SAP is involved in prevention of amylodi fibrils proteolysis and the stability of the amyloid deposits (3). SAP has been linked to Alzheimers disease through its possible role in the pathogenesis of human amyloidoses. Specificity: A synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the N-term of human Serum amyloid P-component was used as an immunogen.
